There are few things in life as amazing as gliding down a pristine slopw on a beautiful sunny day. Nowhere will you find the same feeling. It’s true, we are passionate about our skiis and snowboards. Yet we are still safety conscious. This is the reason we feel compelled to give you the following safety information.
It’s a mistake to ski too close to the trees when snow levels are at their highest. Asphyxiation and hypothermia claim at least one life each year. There is something called tree wells that few are aware exist. These occur in high country areas where the snow levels are often high. This anomally occurs around the base of trees after an extremely heavy snow fall gives way to lots of snow buildup. This happens becasue low hanging branches keep snow from packing. Tree wells can be quite deep, infact deep enough to swallow an average person by a few feet. The skier typically ends up falling in upside down. Any movement in this condition will cause more sinking because the snow is so loose.
You definitely want to wear a high quality snowboard wrist guard. You might understand this if you’re just a beginner but snowboarders are quite apt to break their wrists; it happens more frequently than you would think. If you stop to think about it, it will make sense because if you fall, your natural reaction to that is to reach out in an attempt to brace for impact. You can also learn how to fall correctly: use your knees (because you’re wearing kneepads) and then making your hands into fists as well as using your forearms to help break your fall.
If you’ve never heard of impact shorts for snowboarders, then today’s your day because they can save you from a nasty tailbone injury. These special shorts are padded in the backside plus the hip areas, and they’ll really help a lot with preventing bruises. Also, don’t think you’ll be the only one wearing them because the smarter experienced riders are putting them on. It’s just that, for example, if you bruise your tailbone, you’ll be on the sidelines for months, perhaps. No kidding, it’s a nasty and painful injury to sustain, and impact shorts will help minimize possible damage or injury from a fall.
We understand that you can’t stop all of the potential injuries from happening while you are skiing or snowboarding. Like every other sport, these sports have their own brands of injuries.
It usually just depends on if you are skiing or if you are riding. Going out into the back country requires you to take extra precautions for all of the obvious reasons. If something happens you won’t have help nearby. If you are riding or skiing by yourself, which is a terrible idea, then you are really all alone and putting yourself under unnecessary risks. Before you go out, plan where you will go and what you will do out there.Watch Ketchikan Salmon Fishing.
